About this workshop

The purpose of this course is two-fold to (i) promote responsible conduct of research at KAUST; and (ii) enable the KAUST research community to build resilience in ethical decision-making throughout the research ecosystem. This is a very engaging course, which includes concepts such as ethics, research ethics and integrity, ethical lenses and blind spots. Attendees will participate in activities and case studies as well as robust discussions with reference to previous and current work experience. The goal is to get our research community to a point of critical thinking when facing with ethical dilemmas.

Objectives and Outcome

The primary aim of this workshop is to enable the KAUST research community to conduct research with the highest ethical standards through ethical decision-making. In this regard, to introduce a tool that they can apply in their work environments in decision-making when facing an ethical dilemma.

Learning Outcomes

The outcomes of this workshop will enable the participants to:

  1. understand the general perception of what ethics means, and what is meant by ethical dilemmas;
  2. engage and discuss ethical dilemmas in relation to the research environment; and
  3. learning about a tool that could assist researchers in decision-making;
  4. understand the daily pressures and internal and external influences which cloud our judgments and decision-making ability.
